Kiefer withdraws from Australian Open

Kiefer was hurt last week during the Hopman Cup. His best finish in 10 previous Australian Open visits was a semifinal run in 2006.

Ranked 37th in the world, the veteran was set to play Argentina's Guillermo Canas in the first round of this year's first Grand Slam event. He will be replaced in the draw by fellow German Dieter Kindlmann.
