01/17/2009 - Washington, DC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Antawn Jamison poured in a game-high 28 points to lead the Washington Wizards in a 96-89 victory over the New York Knicks at the Verizon Center for the finale of a home-and-home set.
Mike James added 19 points -- including a 5-for-7 showing from three-point range -- for the Wizards, who saw their six-game slide come to an end. Andray Blatche tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Nick Young dropped 13 points.
Al Harrington had 18 points for the Knicks, who failed to equal their season- high win streak of three games and squandered an opportunity to sweep the season series from the Wizards for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign.
David Lee had 15 points and tied a career-high with 21 boards in defeat. Wilson Chandler gave 16 points and Chris Duhon 13 and eight assists.
"These are the ones you can't lose," said Lee. "We needed this one and I'm very disappointed we didn't get it."
The Wizards pulled to within a point on James' three-pointer at about the two-minute mark of the fourth, and then took an 88-87 lead as Young followed with a jumper.
Down the other end, Harrington's layup was no good which led to another three-pointer from James.
The stretch was part of a 15-0 run over the final 2 1/2 minutes that helped the Wizards take the game.
"We know what they wanted to do," said Jamison. "They had to really work at getting their rebounds."
Washington was ahead 31-25 after the first quarter and led 49-37 at the break.
Chandler's two three-pointers put the finishing touches on an 11-2 New York run the Knicks used to open the third quarter. The surge brought the visitors within 51-48 with just under 10 minutes left in the frame.
Moments later, Duhon's three gave the Knicks a 55-54 lead.
The teams traded baskets and the lead seesawed for the rest of the third, before the Knicks took a 72-70 lead into the final 12 minutes.
Up by four midway through the fourth quarter, Jared Jeffries had a tip-in to give the Knicks an 85-79 lead.

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
